Fundraising
Cross Bay Challenge exists to raise important funds for CancerCare. Owing to its highly unusual nature, The Cross Bay is an expensive event to stage and this is where your entry fees go. If you would like to support the charity in its work helping those affected by cancer, whether as patients, carers or family members, then please either donate during the registration process or try to raise sponsorship amongst friends and family – a little effort by a lot of people goes a long way!
It can be a daunting thought raising funds, however there are a number of key steps that will make it easy for you. Here are our some handy hints to get you going:
Set up a Justgiving page
It’s easy to use - go to www.justgiving.com to set up your own personalised fundraising page and then email the link to everyone you know. Sign up for this online service that allows your supporters to make a donation on the web and also lets people see who is already supporting you.
Ask your company for a donation
Many companies now operate a match-giving scheme where they match what you raise £ for £
Loose change - keep collecting it....
Keep a bucket in the boot of your car and get people to put their loose change in it. Those 1p and 2p coins can be a nuisance in your pocket but they soon add up to a tidy sum.
Spring Clean and Clean Up
Recycle all those unwanted Christmas presents by spring cleaning your house and selling all your items at a local car boot sale! Get your friends to join in too and you'll have double the profits!
Sponsorship Opportunities
Is there a local company who would sponsor you for wearing their logo. There are lots of spectators so your company would get lots of publicity.
Sponsor Forms and Money
To maximise your sponsorship make sure you get your sponsors to include their name, home address, postcode and if they are UK taxpayers that they have ticked the Gift Aid box.
We suggest you get collect sponsorship money upfront as this saves chasing people after you've run.
When you have collected the money you can do one of two things:
1) You can send a cheque (made payable to CancerCare) to our Admin Centre (see address below).
2) Take it to either the Lakes Centre, Kendal or Slynedales, Lancaster.
Please return all sponsor money by 16th August 2013.
By getting your sponsors to give their home address and tick the “Gift aid it” box when they sponsor you they could increase your sponsor money without it costing them a penny extra.
If your sponsor is a UK taxpayer and they clearly write their full name, home address and postcode, we can claim tax back from the government. So, for every pound donated, we receive £1.25.
